Kuschall Ultra Light
A review by me, Philip of Philip's Disabled Help...
Until I got this chair I had only used the standard hospital folding chairs. Fair enough, they are pretty sturdy but they are not exactly stylish!
The first thing I noticed about the Ultralight was how smooth it was to propel. The effort to move around must have been half that of the hospital chair!
The quality of my Kuschall is excellent. The paintwork is faultless and the welding is very smooth.
I opted for a single, flip-up footplate. It is made of carbon fibre and is very neat. My only problem is that the bolt holding it on goes slack quite easily making it difficult to leave it in the 'up' position without holding it (difficult when getting into the chair). I have to carry the allen key provided around with me a=to tighten it up.
The standard chair costs about £1000. Mine cost over £2000 as I went for lots of extras such as the 'aero' seat cover, flip down push handles, wheels and custom paint finish. Most choices were down to vanity and I dare say I could have easily got away with the standard chair. Still, it's nice to be flash when you can!!
The wheels pop off to make storage easier. I upgraded mine to lightweight ones with carbonfibre spokes but the ones that come with the standard chair are pretty smart anyway.
The chair folds in half for storage / transportation. This is easier to do by lifting the middle of the seat. One thing to take care with, though, is when opening the chair up - don't trap your fingers!! - I did - OW!!
So, what do I think of the chair??? Great, smart, quality, smooth - yes I love it!
UPDATE
Having originally ordered the 5" wheels, I have now changed to 7" - the others were useless on bumpy ground!! Forget style - go for practicallity.
ULTRA - LIGHT ........THE LIGHTEST AND BRIGHTEST CHOICE!
The lightest in the range of küschall folding wheelchairs.
This chair gives a choice of footplates to afford good positioning as well as enabling the overall length to be reduced to the minimum, thus facilitating improved manoeuvrability in a tight situation.
LIGHTWEIGHT
Use of ultra-lightweight materials such as the carbon-titanium front frame,
combined with the 'Performance' rear frame make this smart wheelchair
easy to handle and even easier to transport.
FRAME CHOICES
Choose from the front section in carbon-titanium for good looks and excellent handling ability, or opt for the V-form front frame for perfect leg positioning and reduced turning space.
Küschall's Ultra-Light "Personal Mobility Vehicle" is the ultimate in fixed front folding vehicles. Superior technology, cutting edge design and precision engineering have produced the lightest weight, fully adjustable product in the world. The sleek elegant design is not only ultra-lightweight, but it folds to as little as 4" wide without the rear wheels. Just how light is the Ultra-Light? In it's standard configuration it weighs only 23.5 lbs in an actual adult size (16"x16"). The standard 23.5 lb configuration includes:
* Küschall Wheels With STAREC Hubs
* Spring Loaded Wheel Locks
* Composite Clothing Guards
* Composite Flip Up Footrest Plates
Küschall's Ultra-Light is the "ultimate" in high performance folding frame vehicles. Like it's cousin the Compact, it is very rigid when unfolded but, with one slight difference. There is no movement in the front frame. When utilized with the "one piece” composite angle adjustable footrest plate, which performs like a solid front strut, there is virtually no movement in the frame to suggest it folds. An optional angle adjustable back frame and the adjustable rear axle bracket helps create a "personalized" fit typically associated only with "true" adjustable rigid vehicles. Depending on specific driving requirements of course, the Ultra-Light can weight as little as 22 lbs when used with Küschall's High Performance rear wheels and when used without plastic clothing guards.
If driving the lightest, fully adjustable, folding frame vehicle available is what you desire then Küschall has an answer for you. Küschall's Ultra-Light is "designed for life".
